TypeDash
Netherlands typing challenge: can you beat the pace?
Race a simulated runner at the estimated average pace. Keyboard and phone have separate targets.
Published platform pace
- Keyboard68.6 WPMFrom a published figure
- Phone53.4 WPMModeled estimate
The opponent is a simulation at a constant pace, not a recorded person, and these estimates are not measurements of TypeDash players.
This pace comes from a different test than a TypeDash race (different text, length and scoring), so treat it as a rough reference, not a direct comparison.
- Keyboard. Published TypeRacer average of 68.6 WPM for registered racers in the Netherlands (2014). Older platform data. Device mix was not reported; we use it as the pace for keyboard races.
- Phone. Modeled estimate. No phone figure was found for the Netherlands, so we scale the published platform figure (whose device mix is unknown) by the ratio between the US study’s phone and computer medians (29.4 ÷ 37.8). Those were different groups of participants; this is a provisional modeling assumption, not a measured local phone average or a validated device conversion.
You race the pace that matches your input: keyboard or phone, as set in the game’s Settings. Full source details are further down this page.

This race’s leaderboard
Players who raced the average Dutch person on this page, best time each. It ranks players who chose this race, not where anyone lives.

Make it your own: The Rubber Duck
After the average race, turn this page’s original story into a challenge of your own and send it to someone.
In Utrecht, Daan locked his bike outside the station and then forgot which of the thousands of bikes was his. He searched for an hour. Finally he found it, recognized by the rubber duck taped to the handlebar, which he now calls his best idea.
How it works
- Open the story in the challenge maker and read it through. Nothing is created until you lock it in.
- Lock it in and race it once. That run is recorded, and your challenge is ready to share.
- Share the challenge link. Friends race against your recorded run, and their finishes appear on your challenge’s leaderboard.
Racing this optional story creates a separate challenge with its own link and leaderboard.
Want to warm up first? Practice is a solo run; it doesn’t add a finish to any challenge you share. Practice
Keyboard or phone
Race on a physical keyboard or a touchscreen. On every challenge, Keyboard and Touch finishes are ranked on separate boards, so nobody is compared across devices.
Before you race
If your computer uses the US-International setting, the apostrophe and double quote act as dead keys: typed before a vowel they produce an accented letter. Type the mark followed by a space, or switch to plain US English for racing.
Same route, different evenings
Send the link to friends who ride the same route and race at home in the evening. Compare finishes the next morning.
Typing-speed figures
68.6 WPM Average for registered TypeRacer users (guests excluded; countries with at least 800 users) in the Netherlands, 2014.
How it was measured: Country average speeds published by TypeRacer for registered users. The source does not state how the averages were weighted.
Limits: Racers who chose a competitive typing site, data from 2014, device mix not reported. TypeRacer specifically questioned whether its Netherlands and Singapore users represent those populations. This is not a national estimate or directly comparable with TypeDash results. Not a TypeDash measurement.
This pace comes from a different test than a TypeDash race (different text, length and scoring), so treat it as a rough reference, not a direct comparison.
Questions about this challenge
Where does this page’s estimated pace come from?
Keyboard races use the published figure shown below for the Netherlands as the target pace; that source did not report which devices people used. No phone figure was found, so the phone pace is a provisional modeled estimate using the US study’s phone/computer ratio from different participant groups, not a validated device conversion. Neither is a measurement of TypeDash players.
Who is on this race’s leaderboard?
When enabled, this leaderboard ranks players who raced the average Dutch person from this page, each with their best valid time; keyboard and touch are ranked separately, and equal times go to whoever finished first. It shows players who chose this race, not where anyone lives. The simulated runner is never on it, and racers who hide themselves or keep their leaderboard listing private are left out.
Does the the Netherlands story create a separate challenge?
Yes. Locking in this optional story and recording a run creates your own challenge, with a leaderboard for whoever you send the link to. It is separate from racing the regional average.
Who wrote this story?
TypeDash wrote it for this page. It is original and in English, and you can change it in the challenge maker before you lock it in.
Is it free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with nothing to install.
Ready for one race?
Free during early access. Play in your browser, with no download or account signup required. Best on a real keyboard; touch play is available too.
